Partnership between Brazil and Guyana in rice production
segunda-feira, abril 17, 2023
The technology consists of advanced planting, irrigation and soil management techniques, which allow greater efficiency in rice production and reduced costs. The Brazilian producers who developed the technology will share it with producers in Guyana in a joint project. Rice is one of the main agricultural products traded between Brazil and Guyana, and the partnership aims to further strengthen this bilateral trade.
In addition, the technology developed by Brazilian producers has the potential to increase the food security of the Guyanese population, since the country depends on food imports to meet domestic demands. The initiative is part of a series of actions being carried out between Brazil and Guyana to strengthen cooperation in various areas, such as infrastructure, health, education and public security.
The Guyanese producers visited the Epagri Experimental Station of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina, which conducts research with rice and has already launched at least 33 types of cultivars, among them the irrigated rice seed, recognized as the best in Brazil.
