In order to continue following the development of the hemp industry in Argentina, and with the technical support of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), teams from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa) and the National Seed Institute (INASE) participated in the first experimental harvests of the crop on Argentine soil carried out by the national company Industrial Hemp Solutions (IHS), after more than 50 years within the scope of the possibilities offered by the new framework regulation for Medical Cannabis and Industrial Hemp.
IHS is an Argentine company dedicated to the local development of high value-added industrial solutions based on hemp. It is a pioneer in bringing to the country the most innovative hemp genetics in the world to accelerate the development of this industry in Argentina. With the authorization of Senasa and INASE, the company was able to bring to the country cutting-edge hemp genetics from different regions of the world. It is worth mentioning that in Argentina the cultivation of this species has been prohibited since the 1970s, when it ceased to be produced.
"The goal of IHS is to guide industries to facilitate the transition to new economies, characterized by their triple impact. In this way, the company promotes the development of regional economies, promotes carbon sequestration and contributes to the regeneration of soils, in addition to generating foreign exchange for the country, both by increasing exports and replacing imports," he said. Maximiliano Baranoff, Chief Innovation Officer, IHS.
The potential of the Argentine bioeconomy is enormous and, in this context, hemp is positioned as synonymous with development and progress. In this context, the Strategic Committee on Cannabis and Industrial Hemp of Senasa monitors the evaluations that are being carried out on national soil.
