Soybean area and production in South America will be record, says consultancy
segunda-feira, setembro 26, 2022
The first survey conducted by datagro consulting for the 2022/23 soybean crop in South America estimates a production of 219.34 million tons. If confirmed, it would mean a 21% increase over the 181.95 mi t of the frustrated 2021/22 season.
For the area, 66.09 million hectares are expected, a 3% increase over the 63.87 million ha of the revised 2021/22 crop. In case of confirmation, it would set a new historical record and the sixth consecutive increase.
"For average productivity, the initial projection considers relative normality in the climate, but again with heavy uncertainties due to the probable consolidation of the La Niña phenomenon," says the economist and research leader of the company, Flávio Roberto de França Junior.
According to him, although a new sharp increase in production costs is expected, there is positive signaling of maintenance of the use of insums in the assembly of the new season.
Brazilian potential
The initial production potential of Brazil, the largest global producer of oilseeds, is 151.83 mi t, an increase of 9% over the record of 138.82 million t recorded in the 2020/21 harvest. It is projected the 16th consecutive year of expansion in the soybean area, from 41.80 mi ha to 43.03 mi ha.
Argentina's preliminary figures indicate recovery in the planted area after two consecutive years of retreat, from 16.20 mi ha to 17.00 mi ha and, if the climate does not disturb too much, the harvested area may be 16.55 mi ha, compared to 15.70 mi ha in the 2021/22 season. The production potential is 49.65 mi of t, which would represent growth of 14% compared to the current crop.
Other countries that are less expressive in soybeans
In relation to the Paraguayarea, Datagro estimates 3.80 million ha, against 3.76 million ha in 2021/22; the production, taking into account the regular climate, should be 10.92 mi of t, in the sum of the summer and winter harvests, compared to 4.95 mi t in 2021/22.
For Bolivia, the survey indicates that the area can reach a new record, from the current 1.45 mi ha to 1.49 mi ha; production is estimated at 3.50 mi t, 3% above the current crop.
For Uruguay, an area of 1.22 million ha is projected, an increase of 5% compared to 2021/22. The productive potential is predicted at 3.43 mi de t, volume 4% higher than the current year, which would also be a new historical record.
