Peanut production grows more than 100% in the last 8 years

Brazilian peanut production jumped from 346,800 tons in the 2014/2015 crop to an estimated 746,700 tons in the 2021/22 cycle, an increase of 115%, according to data from the National Supply Company (Conab). The good result is mainly a reflection of the increase in the area destined for the crop, which reaches almost double when the two cycles are compared.
Worldwide, more than 44 million tons of peanuts are produced each year. China is the world's largest peanut producer. Brazil, on the other, occupies 11th place.
Most of the product grown in the country is exported. Approximately 70% of the production is destined to the international market, and has in the Countries of the European Union the main buyers, especially the Netherlands, Poland, Australia and Italy. Other major buyers are Russia, Ukraine, UK, Colombia, South Africa and Mexico. But in recent years, China has begun to show increasing interest in Brazilian peanuts, opening up large new markets.
Producing regions
The largest peanut producer in the country, the state of São Paulo is responsible for more than 90% of this projection, with an estimated harvest of 692,700 tons and growth expectation. The result represents an increase of 23.3% compared to the previous state harvest, according to data from the 12th Grain Crop Survey.
According to the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the Federal District, in 2021 the Federal District, which has about 40 producers, had a production of more than 12,000 kilos, making the gross production value of the same year more than 48,000 reais.
