Actions inspired and based on nature to solve problems of the global world. Nature Based Solutions (SBN), or Nature Based Solutions (NBS), are pointed out as one of the best means of carbon offset and were the subject of the Native Forest Carbon Credit panel, presented on Friday (20), the last day of the Global Carbon Market Congress – Decarbonization & Green Investments.
Among the SBN alternatives, projects were cited to reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation and carbon credits.
Gustavo Montezano, president of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), recalled that about half of brazil's carbon emissions come from deforestation. He said carbon credit could become a competitive advantage for the country in negotiations. "The carbon market allows Brazil not only to have no costs, but also to benefit from this bonus."
According to the director of Permian Global – an entity that develops projects for the protection and restoration of tropical forests – Edward Rumsey, the private sector's engagement in the carbon market is due to the economic and environmental potential of the project. "Monetizing reforestation is one of the best ways to reduce the impacts of global warming."
Congress
The Global Carbon Market Congress – Decarbonization & Green Investments was held from Wednesday (18) to Friday and connected corporate strategies, projects and cases, in addition to guiding public policies that boost the green economy in Brazil.
Over three days, more than 100 experts, including entrepreneurs and leaders of large national and international corporations, have met to discuss and propose innovative and sustainable technology solutions for the country to become an exporter of green or clean energy to the world and move towards neutrality in greenhouse gas emissions.
