"This relationship is very important for both countries, especially at this time of concern for global food security," Montes said. According to him, the Egyptian minister also assured that he will mediate with the country's private sector for private companies to increase the supply of fertilizers to Brazil.
The health issues were also on the agenda of the meeting.
The Egyptian Minister has committed to keeping Brazilian issues in high priority, such as the analysis of lists of Brazilian establishments that can be updated by October 2022, in addition to asking Brazil to pay attention to the export demands of Egyptian fruits.
At the same meeting, Embrapa signed a Memorandum of Understanding with egypt's Agriculture Research Center (ARC) to exchange technologies in genetics, health, irrigation, climate change and biotechnology.
Valid for five years, the agreement includes areas such as health and safety of animals and plants, genetic improvement, use of new technologies such as biotechnology, nanotechnology and geological techniques in improving the qualities of soil and agricultural products.
The agreement also provides for the exchange of specialists and training programs between the two countries.
On the agenda with Supply Minister Aly Al Moselhy, improvements in government auction information access models were discussed to increase the participation of Brazilian entrepreneurs. Another theme addressed was the beginning of joint studies to balance markets between fertilizers from Egypt and Brazilian products destined for this country.
Also participating in the meetings with the government of Egypt were the agricultural attaché in Cairo, Cesar Simas Teles, and the Ambassador of Brazil to Egypt, Antonio Patriota. In the coming days, the delegation will travel to Morocco where it will make the final stage of the international mission.
Market
Egypt is the main destination for Brazilian exports to Africa, with more than 70% of this total being agricultural products. Brazilian agribusiness exports to Egypt have been around US$ 1.6 billion, on average, in the last 10 years.
Four products concentrate almost 90% of the export tariff for Egypt: fresh beef, fresh chicken meat, raw sugar and corn.
Egypt's exports to Brazil totaled about US$ 50 million in 2021, with canned olives and plants for medicine or perfumery representing 65% of the total.
Since 2019, 21 new markets have been opened for Brazilian agribusiness products in Egypt: 11 types of seeds, live goats, live sheep, milk and dairy products, beef kids, meat and poultry meat products, chicken cuts, pig meat products, beans, bovine females for breeding and ginger.
